For Unconvention 2009 we are inviting local graphic designers and illustrators to submit poster designs for the event, which will be screen-printed at Hotbed Press in Salford, then exhibited at Urbis in Manchester in the lead up to the event and also at the venue itself, Sacred Trinity Church in Salford, during the event.
Whilst Unconvention does have an established graphic identity, we are not imposing any guidelines or restrictions on the designs of the posters. The selected designs will not be used to promote the event but are to be used as part of an exhibition that visually reflects the ethos of the event. With this in mind, we are encouraging designers to adopt as creative approach as possible and are offering a blank canvas for them to display their skills.
As the event itself is focused on the grassroots and those working on the margins of the established music industry, we would favour submissions from independent designers or illustrators as opposed to established design consultancies.
2-3 colours only
Size: 38cm x 50cm
Format: Initial designs should be supplied in PDF format – the chosen submissions will then need to be supplied as separations (ie each individual colour presented on separate pages) by the artists.
The poster must contain the following information:
Music and Pies
4/5/6th June 2009
Sacred Trinity Church and Blueprint Studios, Salford
There is also some additional text that designers can use if they choose to do so:
Artist Panel: Peter Hook (New Order), Ashley Beedle, Lil’ Fee (The Whip), Liam Frost, John Robb
Outside The Box: Andrew Dubber (New Music Strategies)
The Modern Role Of Collection Agencies: Mark Meharry (Music Glue)
Bands As Enterprise – Do It Together: Al Farquhar (Modern Art Management)
Live – It’s Easier To Ask For Forgiveness Than It Is For Permission: Howard Monk (The Local)
Event compere – Jo Good (MTV/XFM)
A 3-day line up of cutting edge new bands and artists
A BBQ in the cemetery with acoustic showcases, exhibitions and free cakes
As Unconvention is a not-for-profit event we are asking designers to cover the costs of printing and mounting their materials. We estimate that this cost will be around £20. For that fee you will receive 12 copies of your poster which we will make available for sale at Unconvention so there is a strong possibility that you will recoup this fee.
Please submit your designs in PDF format to firstname.lastname@example.org by 1st May 2009. Please do not send attachments with a file size larger than 5MB.
