Rudi Kidd – Music Lawyer, Gray & Co
Rudi qualified as a lawyer in 1991, while working for Daniels in Macclesfield. In 1994 he decided to join love of music with business law, and began to specialise in entertainment law. He worked in London from 1995 for Searles, a leading entertainment law practice with high profile clients, such as Seal, Tricky, Jamiroquai. Returned to Manchester in 1996 to set up Gray & Co. as a specialist entertainment law practice.
The firm was established to provide legal services specifically to cover all aspects of the entertainment and sports industry, but having the facility to provide a high standard of service to both corporate and private clients.
His legal experience, extends to offering advice and assistance in all aspects of the music industry, namely negotiating and advising on recording, publishing, management, band, production, producer’s, distribution, licensing and merchandising agreements. His experience also includes advising on television, films and sporting contractual matters.
Rudi’s client base is artist-orientated though nonetheless diverse. Past and current clients have included, Factory Records, Grand Central Records, Rae & Christian, 20/20 Vision Records, Backyard Dog, Sweet Female Attitude, Atomic Kitten, Leon Lopez Paul Ryder (Happy Mondays), 6 Loves 9, Fat City Records, Silver Films, Paradocs Films, Turn-on TV, Dan Askew (Spooks), H-Town, and many others.
From 1998 to 2006 was the organiser of “In the City-Black Music Unsigned” music conference. He is also a member of the USA based lawyers association Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association.
